Funeral services for Malcolm Lee Lyles "Moose", will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at the West Funeral Home Chapel. Chaplain Terry McKean of Lakeview Christian Hospice will officiate. Interment will follow at Carlsbad Cemetery (old section). Visitation will be 1-6 p.m. on Thursday at West Funeral Home. westfuneralhomellc.com Malcolm Lee Lyles passed away on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Providence Memorial Hospital in El Paso, Texas at the age of 87. Malcolm was born on March 6, 1929 in Lovington, NM to Perry and Hettie (Martin) Lyles. As a young boy, he moved with his mother and siblings to Sheridan, Oregon. Standing over 6'4" tall, he excelled and lettered in football, basketball, baseball and track. Malcolm married Mary McDaniel in Dallas, Oregon on August 5, l950 and they celebrated 661/2 years together. He worked in a sawmill in Oregon until 1957 when he moved his family to Carlsbad, NM, where he worked for Duval Potash until his retirement in 1990. At the mines he was given the nickname "Moose". Throughout his life he was an avid hunter, loved country western music and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. He was preceded in death by his son, Malcolm David Lyles in 1982, both parents and 2 sisters, Minnie Lou Lorenz and Ora Mae Kiper. He is survived by his wife Mary Lyles and daughter, Marilyn Looney and husband David, all of Carlsbad; brother, John Lyles and wife Delores of Turner, OR; granddaughters, Cari Tillman and husband Michael of Destin, FL and Randa Burkeen and husband Allan of Carlsbad and five great- grandchildren: Alexis Tillman, Brenna Tillman, Carsyn Tillman, Justin Hoover and Rylee Hoover.
