She was born on February 14, 1912, to Christopher and Nettie Peedin Hathaway in Johnston County. She married Walter "Slim" Warren in 1932 and they moved to Kinston in 1935. They were the parents of two daughters, Jeanette and Vickie. Mamie was a homemaker for many years but was also employed at Kinston Shirt Company and J.C. Penney's; she babysit for many years and lived to see her "children" have children of their own. Each picture of the children sent to her was a treasure. She enjoyed hearing how well the children had done in life and about their families. She was very close to her siblings as long as they lived. They all preceded her in death; Joseph, Walter "Red," Roger Hathaway, Lula Penny and Victoria Stewart. She was the youngest child. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Walter Belvie "Slim" Warren "1978" and precious daughter, Addie Jeanette Warren "1948"; her son-in-law C.B. Wade "2012" who dedicated his Thursday's to his "Daisy." She is survived by her daughter, Vickie Warren Wade; granddaughter Kimberly Wade Arnette and special great-granddaughter, Adrianna McCall Arnette who shared the same birthday. Mamie had been active in First FWB Church in Kinston since 1935 as long as her health permitted. She was treasurer of the woman's auxiliary for 40 years, church treasurer, ICOR representative, flower committee, benevolent committee and anywhere else she could be for service. She moved to Spring Arbor Assisted Living in June of 2009 where she enjoyed participating in the activities as long as her health allowed. Graveside services will be held at noon on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Westview Cemetery. The memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2014, at Howard-Carter Funeral Home with the visitation to follow.
