Mrs. Mamie Lee Moretz Flannery of West Jefferson died on Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Ashe Memorial Hospital. She was 96.
Mrs. Flannery was born on April 14, 1918, in Watauga County to Sherman Lloyd and Lucy Jane Arnett Moretz.
Mrs. Flannery was preceded in death by parents; husband, Daniel Boone Flannery; four brothers, John Moretz, Vance Moretz, Ed Moretz, and Raymond Moretz.
Mrs. Flannery loved reading her Bible, doing word puzzles and cooking. She enjoyed sewing, making quilts and visits from her friends and neighbors.
Mrs. Flannery is survived by a son, Burl Flannery of West Jefferson; three daughters, Linda Pennington, Shirley Killen and Lucy Riddle, all of West Jefferson; brother, Don Moretz of High Point; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren;, several nieces, nephews; and her special dog, Rat.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at the Ashelawn Memorial Chapel by Rev. Ken Furches, Rev. Jimmy Galgano and Rev. Lloyd Day. Burial followed in Lewis Cemetery.
The family received friends on Wednesday, July 2, 2014, at Ashelawn Memorial Chapel.
