JAFFREY-- Manuel L. Areias, 78, a resident of Jaffrey, died on Sunday, December 11, 2016 at the Westwood Nursing Home in Keene, New Hampshire after a period of declining health.He was born on January 11, 1938 in Azores, Portugal, a son of the late Farasen and Deolenda (Bores) Areias. Manuel was raised and educated in Portugal and emigrated to the United States, first living in Lowell, Massachusetts for a few years before moving to Temple, Walpole, and finally settling into Jaffrey, to be closer to family.He married Maria Naude Alves and together they raised five children.Manuel enjoyed time spent with his family and especially time spent with his grandchildren, who he cared for immensely. He also enjoyed farming and bull fighting.In addition to his loving wife, Maria, survivors include his children; Carlos of Greenville, John of the United Kingdom, Paul of Deering, New Hampshire, Boby of Rindge, New Hampshire and his only daughter, Maria Rodriguez, of Merrimack, New Hampshire, his fifteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and family both here and in Portugal.Calling hours will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. in the Cournoyer Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 33 River Street (Rte. 202) Jaffrey, NH 03452.A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow calling hours on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 12:00 Noon at St. Patrick Church, 80 Main Street, Jaffrey, with Rev. Wilfred Deschamps officiating.
