Marcella Traxler Hayden, 98Le SueurAugust 14, 1918 - November 28, 2016Marcella Traxler Hayden died at the Minnesota Valley Health Center on Monday, November 28, 2016. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 2, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at St. Anne's Church, Le Sueur, MN. Visitation will be on Thursday, December 1, starting with a 3:45 p.m. C.C.W. Marcella grew up on the family farm near St. Henry and attended country school there. After grade school she went to Good Counsel Academy in Mankato but had to leave after two years to return home to care for her aging parents. As a young woman she worked as the housekeeper for the priests of St. Henry Catholic Parish. During these years she met a dashing young Irishman who loved to dance, Aidan J. Hayden. When Aide joined the Army and was stationed in California, Marcella drove to California with a girlfriend to be with him. While there she worked in a date factory. When A.J. was transferred to Camp Polk, LA, she followed him there and they were married on September 29, 1943.After the war the couple moved back to take over the Hayden family farm where they lived throughout their married life. When the children were all in school, Marcella went to work as chief cook and bottle washer at the newly created Teen Center in LeSueur. Later, she was the daytime kitchen manager at the Coachlight Inn working for Buster and Marion Duzan. With her love of, and talent for cooking, Marcella was known for her contributions to Church luncheons and bake sales---especially her lemon pie. Thankfully she passed on to her children this love of cooking, a lot of guidance and the recipe for her lemon pie.Mother taught us many important life lessons; one should belong to the Ladies Aid Society so there are more opportunities to cook, serve and clean up the kitchen. Balance is an important part of life so play lots of bingo, visit the casino once in a while, cook for fun, sew, knit and have a drink with great and loyal woman friends. She gave her time and talents in many ways. As a 4-H leader she spent many years helping with monthly meetings and projects for the county fair. She coached her sons in learning Latin so they could be altar servers and she taught her daughters how to clean and to not forget to shop.Marcella is survived by her children: Liz (Charlie Flinn), St. Cloud; Larry (Anne), Sioux Falls; Dan (Julie), Eau Claire; Colleen Hayden Mellem, LeSueur; grandchildren: Christa (Dave) Brooks; Jennifer (Kent) Hoisington; Erin (Jason) Illg; Megan (Arian) Otto; and Sam. She is also survived by her special friend, Jan Hentges. Marcella was preceded in death by her husband Aidan "A.J." Hayden in 1983 and son Patrick Hayden. She was the 13th child of 15 children born to Felix and Henrietta. Preceding her in death were Irene who died in infancy, Lucy, Frances, Joe, Margaret, Vera, Larry, Marie, Andy, Phil, Jack, Elmer, Tony, and Ethel. Memorials preferred to St. Anne's School, 511 N. 4th St, Le Sueur, MN 56058.
