Dean McGrew, 78, of Blaine, Minnesota, passed on October 27, 2022 in Coon Rapids, Minnesota. Dean was born on September 04, 1944 in Marshalltown, Iowa.
Dean graduated from Gilman High School in 1963. He then attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa, where he earned a Bachelor's of Arts degree in history. Upon graduation, Dean enlisted in the Marine Corps where he served for two years. The majority of that service was at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
After Dean's discharge, he returned to Morningside College to earn his teaching certificate. This is where Dean met Sandra Pencook. They married in 1971. They had two daughters, Tanya Renee born in 1974 and Rachel Nicole born in 1977.
Dean worked at many careers throughout his working life. He taught in South Dakota and Iowa. He worked as a media specialist in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He owned Micro Consultants. He then changed career paths and drove over the road trucks for several companies in Iowa and Minnesota. Upon retiring in Minnesota, Dean volunteered at several jobs in the metro, including the Senior Linkage Line and the Blind Commission.
Dean was an active member of church throughout his life. He was a member of New Brighton Church of Christ. He previously was a member of St Philip's Lutheran Church in Fridley, Minnesota, Grace Lutheran Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa and Trinity United Methodist Church in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He attended many Bible studies and book clubs and the churches. He enjoyed the friendships he made through those clubs. He also enjoyed history, politics, and reading. He really enjoyed talking and debating about all of those topics. He watched shows, like Westerns and police shows. He was an avid fan of M*A*S*H* and Blue Bloods. He also loved listening to NPR, classic music and Sousa marches
Dean is survived by his daughters, Tanya McGrew and Rachel McGrew Frisbie, son in law Nicholas Frisbie, grandson Liam Frisbie. Brothers Paul McGrew and Phil McGrew and sister Mary Reece. Sisters in law Cathy Ballot and Carol (Jack) Werner, and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by wife Sandra McGrew, parents Dorothy and Myron McGrew.
