Marcus BarrowMarcus Barrow, 92 years of age, went to his heavenly home on Sunday February 12, 2017, in Springfield, MO. He was born on October 8, 1924, to Marcus "Mark" and Mamie Fontaine (Nutt) Barrow in Jonesboro, Arkansas. He was united in marriage to Dorris (Cook) Barrow on March 20, 1948. To this union four children were born: Carol, Steve, Andy, and Celeste.He proudly served his country in both the
United States Navy and the
United States Air Force and was a
veteran of
WWII and the Korean War. Marcus was a communication engineer with Frisco, Missouri Pacific, and Union Pacific railroads throughout his working career. He enjoyed golf, fishing, and travel. He was known for his dedication to volunteerism, including work at Ridgecrest Baptist Church and Grand Oaks Baptist Mission.Marcus is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Dorris; His sister Elizabeth (Barrow) Allen; his 4 children: Carol Arms and husband Louis, Steve and wife Terri, Andy and wife Elizabeth, and Celeste Skidmore and husband Mark. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren, Jennifer (Arms) Zebel, Stephanie (Arms) Murray, Erika (Barrow) Miller, Kevin Barrow, Rachel Skidmore, and Jacob Skidmore. He is survived by 8 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister Willodene (Barrow) Smith. Visitation will be held at Walnut Lawn Funeral Home, Springfield, MO, on Thursday February 16, 2017, 10:00 AM - 11:30 AM, with funeral services to follow at 11:30 AM. After funeral services, Marcus will be laid to rest at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery where he will receive full military honors beginning at 1:00 PM.In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Marcus' memory to of Springfield, MO.
