Marcus Leroy Cope, 87, died at 7:50 a.m. on Sunday, March 26, 2017 at St. Rita's Inpatient Hospice Unit in Lima.Marcus was born on August 28, 1929 in Toledo to Rev. Arthur T. and Grace (Robinault) Cope. On April 14, 1953, he married Marian (Harris) Cope. She preceded him in death on July 31, 2014.Marcus is survived by two daughters, Susan Cope of Lima and Kim (David) Klingler of Wapakoneta; two sons, Gary (Deborah) Cope of Toledo and Lance Cope of Lima; six grandchildren, Steve (Tamara) Cope, Matthew (Becky) Cope, Priscilla Cope, Zach Cope, Austin Klingler and Jenessa Klingler; and several great-grandchildren.Marcus was preceded in death by a son, Scott Cope, and a grandchild, Clint Cope.Marcus was a graduate of Lima Central High School in 1947 and then served in the US Army from 1951 to 1956 and during the Korean War. He worked for Ford Motor Company, Lima Engine Plant as an assembly line relief man. He knew how to do all the jobs on the assembly line and was so dedicated to his work that he only missed one day of work during his career. Marcus retired on Jan. 1, 1991. Marcus enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, working outside, spending time with his family and going on family vacation trips to Myrtle Beach. He was a fan of The Ohio State Buckeyes and enjoyed taking care of his wife Marian. He was admired and respected by his children for his Christian faith and his love and devotion to his family."Dad, we will miss you, until we see you again."The family will receive friends from Thursday, March 30 from 12 to 2 p.m. at Chamberlain-Huckeriede Funeral Home in Lima.A private family service and burial at St. Matthews Cemetery will follow.
