Margaret Josephine Acker, age 88, of Citrus Springs, FL died on October 12, 2016 while under the care of Hospice of Citrus and the Nature Coast, Lecanto. Margaret was born on July 8, 1928 in Middletown, NY to the late Raymond and Sarah (Barnum) Himpele. She was married to Wilbur H. Acker for 56 years until his passing on March 21, 2008. In 1983, Margaret and Wilbur made Citrus County their home after relocating from Arlington, VA. She did many wonderful things for the benefit of children over the years. Margaret was a child caregiver in Arlington, VA and loved working as a substitute teacher. While she was not a fan of computers, she was passionate about reading and tried to pass that love of literature on to young people. Not only did she write children's books, Margaret would take children to the library and get them involved in the literacy and reading programs they had to offer. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader for a number of years and loved working on projects with children. Margaret enjoyed taking her grandkids roller skating and enjoyed working crossword and word search puzzles. In her youth, she enjoyed playing softball and loved watching baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. Margaret was an animal lover and especially fond of Boston Terriers. She was also known to enjoy a good glass of wine with a meal.Those left to cherish Margaret's precious memory are her sons: Leon R. Acker of Lecanto, FL, Joseph W. Acker and his wife Christine of Durham, N.C., and Mark W. Acker and his wife Christine of Citrus Springs, FL; eight grandchildren: Devon, Matt, Jason, Raymond, Catie, Jennifer, Alexandra and Lauren; and several great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her loving husband Wilbur, Margaret was preceded in death by her two sisters, Ann Sherman and Joan Geiser.A Funeral Service of Remembrance is planned for Monday, October 17, 2016 at 10:00 AM from the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness where members of Margaret's family will share their fondest memories of her. The family will receive friends in visitation beginning at 9:00 AM until the hour of service. Burial will take place at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL. Arrangements are under the direction of the Chas E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness, FL.
