This obituary is administered by:
Margaret Alvyn WilliamsonJacksonville FLMargaret Alvyn Woelfel Williamson, 95, passed on to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 20, 2017 in Jacksonville FL. She was born on February 26, 1922 at her Grandmother Scott's home in Anderson County, SC, the daughter of Alvyn E Scott and Edward Richard (Dick) Woelfel. Margaret grew up in Greenville SC on Atwood St. She was a member of First Baptist Church and attended Furman University's Women's Campus. She married William (Bill) Abner Williamson, Jr, on October 3, 1942 in New York's Church of the Transfiguration (Little Church Around the Corner) prior to Bill shipping out in WWII. They were married 59 ½ years. She and her family moved to Miami, FL in 1958 and joined University Baptist Church, moved in 1965 to Atlanta, GA and joined Northside Baptist Church, and moved to Jacksonville, FL in 1967 and joined Southside Baptist Church in San Marco Square. Margaret was active in both Girl and Boy Scouts in Miami. In Jacksonville she was a member of the Twenty-one Investment Club, served in St Luke's Auxiliary for many years (President 1975 and 1976), was a Charter Member of Chapter P.E.O. Sisterhood, and was active in volunteering at Southside Baptist Church. She and Bill would bring their grandchildren down to Jacksonville each summer to attend the Vacation Bible School program at the church and take them to the beach and other fun activities, such as introducing all the children to the card game "Hand and Foot". Margaret was a true "lady" to all those who met her, in her dress and in her manner. She was always dressed nicely, jewelry and all, whether for church, the grocery store, or for working in the yard. As one friend said, "Only Margaret looks good when she gardens." She loved to garden and had plants throughout her house. She enjoyed travelling with her husband in their motor home around the North American continent. She liked saying that she and Bill had visited every state capitol building in the US, excepting Hawaii. Their favorites places were Alaska and Prince Edward Island, CA. Margaret traveled to Greenville as many times a year as she could to attend the monthly "39ers" luncheon with her fellow Greenville friends who graduated HS about 1939. She had an attitude that "if it needed to be done, just do it", and she did. She learned to back our boat and trailer into the bay and to drive their huge motor home. Even at 95 she cleaned her own home and did a lot of her own yard and pool work. She walked a mile each day until recently. She had fun "hosting" her Beauclerc neighbors and friends in what became an almost weekly card game of "Foot". As Mom wrote, "I was mostly devoted to my family, church and having friends in to enjoy a meal." Margaret, predeceased by her husband Bill, grandson James Hayden Williamson, and Son-in-Law William Nelson, is survived by their five children and their families: William (Bud) A Williamson, III (Ann), and their children: William (Bill) A Williamson, IV (Beth) with their children William (Liam) A Williamson, V, Kaylee Anne; Jeremy Parks Williamson (Charlotte); Laura Elizabeth Williamson Stafford (Robert) with their children Austin Thomas, Addyson Parks, Anabelle Elizabeth; David Edward Williamson (Cathy); Margaret Joyce Williamson Nelson with her children: Mary Scott Nelson Foreman (Matthew) with their children Kathryn (Katy) Scott, Darsie Elisabeth, William (Liam) Cullen, Margaret (Molly) Frances; John William Nelson (Sarah Beth) with their children Virginia Elizabeth, William Horatio; Sarah Margaret Nelson Wade (Jesse) with their children Logan Allen, Isla Grace Margaret; James Daniel Williamson with his children: Lori Christina Williamson Hart (Rick) with their children Mathew Codey, Dylan Blake; Kari Danielle Williamson Fleming (Reid) with their children Jackson Cobb, McKenna Ryan, Hannah Scott; David Edward Williamson, II; Thomas Marion Williamson (Karen) with their children: Jeffrey Daniel Bennett, Ryan Miller, step-son, Samantha Faith, Timothy Brice. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in Jacksonville FL at Southside Baptist Church on Wednesday May 31 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Southside Baptist Church in Margaret's name.
