INDEPENDENCE – Margaret C. Lohman, 88 years old, of Independence, died on Friday, October 28, 2016, at ABCM Nursing and Rehab. Independence – West Campus in Independence. She was born on June 19, 1928, in Buchanan County, near Independence, the daughter of Jesse Charles and Isabel (McCormick) Catt. She graduated from high school in Independence with the Class of 1945. On October 16, 1946, she and Donald LaVerne Lohman were married in Louisville, Kentucky. He preceded her in death in 1970. For many years, Mrs. Lohman was a switchboard operator at the Mental Health Institute and Peoples Memorial Hospital, both in Independence. For many years she was the secretary for Wilson Cemetery in Independence. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Chautauqua Literary, and she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 65 years. Mrs. Lohman enjoyed playing cards, specifically 500, playing the organ and piano, family gatherings, reading, and the Chicago Cubs.Mrs. Lohman is survived by one daughter, Joyce (Jerry Pipho) Lohman-Pipho of Independence; one grandson, Shane; two great grandchildren, Courtney and Zachary; and two sisters, Elizabeth Gray of Markesan, Wis., and Marlene Hettinger of Independence.In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Don Lohman; one grandson, Timothy Lohman; two brothers: Charles Catt and Claude Catt; and a sister, Oma Jean McBride.Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, October 31, at the First United Methodist Church in Independence with Rev. Scott Meador officiating. Burial will be in Wilson Cemetery in Independence. Friends may call for visitation from 2 until 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 30, at the White Funeral Home in Independence.
