Schiller, Margaret Esther Newhall Margaret Esther Newhall Schiller passed away peacefully on April 24, 2017. Margaret was born on a small homestead ranch in Congress, Arizona on July 7, 1922 to Franklin and Esther Newhall. She was one of six children. Margaret and her family moved from their Congress homestead to Phoenix in 1924. Margie, as her friends called her, graduated from Phoenix Union High School in 1940. In 1944, she joined the Coast Guard as a SPAR to help the war effort. After her service in the Coast Guard, Margie married and had three sons: Jerry Wayne, Richard Morris and Donald Franklin. Margie moved back to Arizona with her three sons and in 1952 went to work for Air Research. Here she met many people who remained her friends for life. She also met her life's love, Joseph Bennet Schiller, who became her husband in 1958. Joe and Margie added a baby girl, Joanne, to their family. Margie and Joe had the joy of welcoming their four grandchildren - Kerri Rae, Richard Joseph, Eric Wayne and Charles Joseph (C.J.) into the family. After Joe's passing in 1991 Margie saw the addition of three great-grandchildren Grace Wray, Anabella Jo and Kareena Anne. Margie was also blessed to have two great-grandchildren by love, Cole Trakes and Dillon Petrie. Margie loved to square dance, travel and spend time at the family cabin in Forest Lakes, Arizona where she enjoyed summers for over 25 years. Margie was fastidious about getting her hair done weekly and her pie crusts. In between visiting her family, extended family and friends, Margie stayed very busy. She was an active member of Queen Esther Eastern Star Lodge where she served as a Star Point Officer for 15+ years. Margie was inducted into the Social Order of the Beauceant in 1976 where she was an active member and served as Treasurer for many years. She was an active member, Deacon and volunteer at the Historic First Presbyterian Church of Phoenix. Margie also volunteered at a local woman's shelter. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, her brother James (Jim) Newhall, her sisters Linda Connell and baby Norma. She is survived by her sisters Jane Staymates and Phyllis Saylor (Frank), her children Jerry, Richard (Florance), Don (Marsha) and Joanne, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Margie lived a long and wonderful life and she will be missed by all of her family and friends. Memorial service will be held at Hillsong Phoenix, 402 W. Monroe (former Historic First Presbyterian Church) at noon on Monday, May 22nd.
