Margaret Ferraro Obituary

Nov 11, 1918 - Jan 19, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Ferraro, Margaret (Maria)Margaret (Paciocco) Ferraro, 98, passed away on July 19, 2017 at Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal, NY. She was born on November 11, 1918. She is predeceased by her husband, Dominic J. Ferraro, who she married in July 1955. She is survived by her daughter Sharon, Michael and granddaughter Nicole; son Lenard, Tammy, and grandsons Kyle and Ryan, and son Ronald, Jina and grandson Michael. She is predeceased by her parents Nicolantonio and Bambina (Pace) Paciocco of Vacri, Italy as well as brothers Sebastiano, Francesco, Umberto, Carlo, and sisters Ilde and Rita. She leaves behind sister Elena Pompeo and brothers Eugenio and Vincenzo of Vacri, Italy and brother Americo of Switzerland. She also leaves behind many extended family members in the US and Italy and friends who she loved very much. Margaret was the oldest of 11 children and came to Binghamton from Italy at 17 years old on an ocean liner with just her 16 year old brother, Sebastiano, to live with their grandmother during WWII. She learned English and soon was working hard to help support her younger brothers/sisters and family in Italy. She would send money, clothes, toys and gifts to them throughout the years and was able to make 10 trips back to visit them. She worked at Kroehler Furniture for many years, then a few food shops including Peggy's Pantry; and her last job for many years was at Lane's Fast Foods in Johnson City where she retired close to 80 years old. She then became a dedicated mall walker and did it almost every morning. She loved to be with her children and their families; and of course, she especially loved being with her grandchildren (cooking for them and babysitting were favorites). She loved to bake and loved to give her cookies/cakes to anyone. She baked enormous amounts of cookies and cakes for any occasion (including weddings)! Her "homemades" were big hits: especially spaghetti, gnocchi, and ravioli. It wasn't unusual to have 50+ people in the backyard or downstairs with her cooking and baking it all. Her life was all about her family, friends and her faith. She had a very strong faith, saying the rosary at least one a day; and we know she is at peace now in heaven with Jesus, her husband and family/friends.Before entering Willow Point Nursing Home in February 2015, she spent 5 years living at Castle Gardens in Vestal, NY. She kept very busy and especially loved playing Bingo. The family wishes to thank Castle Gardens for their kindness and care during those years. The family also thanks the staff at South 2 in Willow Point Nursing Home for their support and care for Maria, as they called her, over the 3 ½ years; and a special thank you to the staff for the loving care during her passing. Funeral services will be held Saturday August 5, 2017 at 9:30 am from the Leon Pucedo Funeral Home, Inc. 1905 Watson Blvd. Endicott and at 10:00 am at the Church of the Holy Family, 3600 Phyllis St. Endwell, NY where a funeral mass will be held. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Johnson City, NY. The family will receive friends at the Pucedo Funeral Home on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5 to 7 pm. Expressions of sympathy in her memory may be made to her granddaughter's foundation, Bite Me Cancer ( www.bitemecancer.org).
