Margaret HardyBarefoot BayMargaret "Marge" (Hendrickson) Hardy died peacefully at William Childs Hospice House on Sunday, June 18, 2017. She was 93.Marge is survived by five grandchildren (Christine, Tara, Randi, Jason, and Maggie) and six great-grandchildren (Brielle, Christian, Nikali, Isabel, Skylar, and Jocelyn). She is preceded in death by her husband, William G. Hardy, her children, her brother, and her parents.Margaret was born on November 22, 1923 in Bayonne, New Jersey to Henry and Helen Hendrickson. She later graduated from Hunter College with a certificate in teaching. In 1942, without telling her parents, she joined the United States Naval Reserve (Women's Reserve known as the WAVES); she was stationed at Naval Weapons Station Earle. In 1943, Margaret met William G. Hardy, also in the Navy; they were married on April 29, 1945. Margaret was an at-home mom for many years when her boys were young then began teaching 2nd grade at St. Joseph's School in Keyport in 1957. Mrs. Hardy felt a good education was the best foundation we could give our children and encouraged a love of reading to so many.During the early years of their marriage, Bill and Marge (aka Bubbles) lived in Clark, then Hazlet. Both were very active in their church, fire department, social clubs, and loved to go out for dinner and dancing. In 1963, they bought a beach cottage in Lavallette, NJ where they enjoyed summers on the beach, bus trips down to AC, and playing cards with friends. In 1981, Bill and Marge retired down to Barefoot Bay, FL where they were active with their local fire department and church. Margaret was passionate about teaching and loved children. A viewing is scheduled for this Friday from 3-5pm at Strunk Funeral Home in Sebastian. The funeral will take place Saturday, June 24th at 11am at St. Luke's Catholic Church in Barefoot Bay; her burial will follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery in Palm Bay.
