ANGOLA — Margaret Louise Hasselman, 96, passed away Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Lakeland Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Angola. She was born on April 23, 1919, to Finley & Goldie (Barr) Vincent in Delaware County, Indiana She received her education at Albany Elementary and Albany High School. After being double-promoted, she graduated as Valedictorian of her class of 1936. She attended Ball State Teachers College, now known as Ball State University, and received her Bachelor of Science degree from there. She began her teaching career at Ashley, Indiana, for 20 years, two years at Salem Center, now known as Prairie Heights School, two years at Wolcottville and six years in the DeKalb Central school system near Auburn. She taught Vocational Home Ecomonics and English, retiring in 1981. She was a member of the former Phi Delta Lambda Sorority, Pleasant Lake Study Club, the Salem Center Study Club and the Charm and Chatter Extension Club in Noble County. She was a member of the Steuben County Retired Teachers and a life member of the Indiana Retired Teachers. She was former member of the former Community Bible Study Group. She and her husband were members of Steuben County Beta Farmers Club for 10 years. Margaret married Howard Hasselman on March 5, 1944, at Bethel United Methodist Church near Albany, Indiana. They were blessed with three sons, Ted Vincent (deceased), Thomas Howard and Timothy Paul. She has four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was an active member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Angola since 1961. Before that, she and her husband were members of Zion Lutheran Church West Fairfield. She has been involved with several areas of service with the church women and was a member of Martha Dorcas Circle. She enjoyed traveling in her 33 years of retirement. Her trip to the Holy Land when she was 78 years old was especially joyful. She also had two trips to Florida to visit friends. She is survived by her two sons, Tom and Cathy Hasselman of Pleasant Lake and Tim and Penny Hasselman of Angola; a grandson, Curt and Bethany Hasselman of Pleasant Lake, and three granddaughters, Valerie and Chad Jetmore of Angola, Meredith and Brad Boyles of Fort Wayne, Lisa and Scott Sirianni of Arlington Heights, Illinois; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Howard, in 1994; a brother, Robert B. Vincent in 1996; and a son, Ted V. Hasselman in 1997. Funeral services will be Friday, September 11, 2015, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 Williams Street, Angola, with calling one hour before services. The Rev. Daryl J. Emowrey and Pastor Donald Meyers will officiate. Friends may call at Johnson Funeral Home in Hudson on Thursday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in Circle Cemetery.
