Margaret K HeaneyAGE: 76 • Spring LakeMargaret K. Heaney, 76, of Spring Lake, NJ, passed away on Monday May 1, 2017 at Jersey Shore Medical Center in Neptune, NJ. Margaret was born on February 19, 1941 to the late Charles G. and Margaret M. Drew. She grew up in Harrison and settled in Spring Lake in 1974. Margaret was adoringly referred to as "Honey" by her family and friends. Margaret graduated from Caldwell University in Caldwell, NJ, with a bachelors degree in History. Following her graduation, Margaret worked as a certified public school teacher before beginning her career in community service. Margaret received many citations and awards as the Registered Municipal Clerk of Bay Head, NJ, a leadership position she held for over twenty years. Margaret held strong to her Catholic faith for her entire life. She was an active parishioner of St. Catharine's Parish in Spring Lake. She was a member of the Parish Council and the Social Concerns Committee, participated in Habitat for Humanity and served as a Eucharistic Minister. She was exceptionally generous. She was always eager to help family and friends. She supported dozens of charities and social justice causes. Margaret had a terrific sense of humor and a zest for life . She enjoyed playing bridge with friends. She loved watching sports, especially soccer. She was a loyal fan of the NY/NJ Redbulls, the New Jersey Nets, the NY Mets and UFC boxing. Margaret was an avid gardener. She was proud of her Irish heritage. Most of all, Margaret loved her family. She cherished her 54 year marriage to her husband Paul, the love of her life. She was a faithful and loving daughter to her own mother Margaret. As a devoted Mother, Wife, Sister, Grandmother, Aunt, Niece, Cousin and Friend, she will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Margaret is survived by her loving husband Paul; her children Catherine (Scott) Yen, Irene Heaney, Christine (John) Stelmach, Paul Heaney (Lalena Heske) and Charles (Meghan) Heaney; her eight grandchildren Amy, Daniel, John, Erin, Kevin, Christopher, Liam, and Colin; her three brothers Charles Drew, Paul Drew, and Paschal Drew; her beloved aunt, Kathleen Sharkey, and dozens of extended dear family members and friends. Relatives and friends are invited to visit the Oceanside Memorial Home, 2014 Main St., Lake Como, NJ on Friday, May 5, 2017 from 3-8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 9am at St. Catharine's Church, 215 Essex Ave., Spring Lake, NJ.
