This obituary is administered by:

Margaret Louise Longshore Schuyler, 90, died September 25, 2013, at LaGrange Hospice House.

The funeral will be held at First Presbyterian Church in LaGrange on Monday, September 30, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. with The Reverend Dr. Douglas DeCelle and The Reverend William Conine officiating. Pastor Jackie Banks will offer hymns. Private interment at Fort Benning, GA, will follow. Family will receive friends in the Church Hall at 10:00 a.m., prior to the service.

Mrs. Schuyler was born on September 4, 1923, in Montgomery, AL, to Louise Elizabeth Jenkins Longshore Taylor and Robert Parker Longshore. She and her widowed mother moved from Tampa, FL, to Atlanta where Margaret finished Girls High. Shortly after, she met a dashing Army lieutenant stationed at Fort McClelland, AL, John James Schuyler, of New York, New York. They married one week before Pearl Harbor, on November 29, 1941. Devoted to home and community service, Margaret and the late Colonel John Schuyler enjoyed an active and happy marriage for 63 years, a team in the Army and retired, in Milledgeville, GA, and LaGrange. Theirs was a love story that spanned the better part of a century of major wars and long separations, of peace, patriotism, loyalty, and faith.

Mrs. Schuyler is survived by her daughter, Mary Louise Schuyler Mullenix and her husband COL (ret) Ronald O. Mullenix, of Columbus, GA, and her son, John James Schuyler, Jr., of Newnan, GA. Known affectionately as "Goggies" and "Nana" by her family, Margaret was so proud of her four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, LTC Philip Schuyler Mullenix, MD, and his wife Cristina Balbona, and their sons Schuyler Balbona and Sterling Goicoechea, of Chevy Chase MD; Matthew Rucker Mullenix and his wife Rochelle (Shelly) Lichter, and their twin daughters Margaret Amber and Briana Parker, of Baton Rouge, LA; John James Schuyler III and his wife Stephanie Ogle and their daughters Lila Louise and Elizabeth Josephine, of Buffalo, NY; Laura Louise Schuyler Townsend and her husband Brian Allan and their two sons, Andrew Allan and Parker Bennett, of LaGrange. Mrs. Schuyler's first cousin, also of LaGrange, is William Guy Longshore. Family & friends in LaGrange, Milledgeville, and Columbus, especially all of the children above including her godchildren, Katie Fialka of Athens GA and Sarah, Emily, and Michael Brackett of LaGrange, were her greatest delight. Margaret always faced challenge with courage, and her enthusiasm for life was unparalleled. With characteristic optimism, she created beautiful needlepoint, collected antiques, and pursued lifelong hobbies of genealogy and gardening.

Mrs. Schuyler belonged to First Presbyterian Church, chapters of the National Society of Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames 17th Century, United Daughters of the Confederacy, the Auxiliary of the Military Officers Association of America, and Highland Country Club. She was a patron of Belleview Historic Home and Woman of the Year of the LaGrange Woman's Club. Mrs. Schuyler's family wishes to recognize and to extend our humble gratitude to her dedicated caregivers, especially her devoted long-term nurse and companion, Cynthia Banks and her entire, loving family, and to the nursing staffs at home, Vernon Woods Terrace, and most especially, LaGrange Hospice House.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to LaGrange Hospice, 1510 Vernon Road, LaGrange 30240; First Presbyterian Children, 120 Broad Street LaGrange 30240; the Schuyler Memorial Library of New Zion Church, 1516 44th Ave SW, Lanett AL 36863, or the Mater Dei-St. Francis Africa Mission, West Georgia Eye Care Center, 2616 Warm Springs Road, Columbus GA 31904, c/o Dr. Stephen Beaty.
