Meenk, MargaretMargaret Meenk, 96, of Waupun, died peacefully on July 2, 2017 at the Christian Home in Waupun surrounded by loving family. Margaret was born on July 8, 1920, in the town of Alto, the oldest daughter of Ralph and Johanna (Vander Bosch) Harmsen. On November 18, 1945, she married Elton Meenk at Alto Reformed Church.Margaret and Elton lived their entire lives in Waupun, starting Meenk Brothers Electric with Elton's brother, Marvin. They enjoyed having friends and family up to their cottage on Tuttle Lake for swimming, skiing, and cookouts. Margaret and Elton were active members of Trinity Reformed Church in Waupun, where they both served as Sunday School superintendents. Margaret will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoyed her family and was strong in her Christian faith. Margaret enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, traveling, and she painted many beautiful oil paintings. She is survived by her daughter, Beth (Thomas) of Carmel, Indiana; son, Paul (Catherine) of Billings, Missouri; her 6 grandchildren: Eric Meenk (Amy) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jennifer Wallander of Indianapolis, Indiana, Kristen Garrett (Thomas) of Westfield, Indiana, Lindsey Welling (Alex) of Fishers, Indiana, and Kara and Maggie Meenk; and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Katherine Prange of Waupun; one aunt, Minnie Frens, also of Waupun; loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elton; younger brother, Lester Harmsen; younger sister, Ruthie Nickel; aunts, uncles, and other relatives. Funeral services for Margaret Meenk will be held Thursday, July 6, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun with Rev. Dennis Overlien officiating. Burial will follow at Alto Cemetery. Friends and relatives may call on the family on Thursday at the funeral home from 1 p.m. until the time of service.The family wishes to thank the staff of the Christian Home in Waupun for their care and kindness over the last 4 years.
