RACINE - Margaret Stepnowski, age 96, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 20, 2012. She was born on January 27, 1915 in Vochin, Yugoslavia, daughter of Adele and Peter Horvath. Margaret lived in Racine from 1919 to 1985, moving to Laguna Woods, CA for over 20 years and returning to Racine in 2008. She was a graduate of Park High School. During her years of raising 6 children, Margaret also worked outside the home. She enjoyed being a school crossing guard and getting to know the children. Having grown up with a Mother who ran her own soup kitchen Margaret also enjoyed working in restaurants and getting to know the customers. In California she volunteered her time assisting at a health care facility and was active daily at her Senior Center helping out with meal and games and cards programs. Surviving Margaret are five children: Barbara (David) McCarthy of Muskegan, Michigan, Linda (Richard) Schneck of Racine, Sara (Robert) Schultz of Columbia, Maryland, Thomas Chambers of Racine, Patricia Chambers of Milwaukee; and Daughter-in-Law Pamela Chambers of Dallas, Oregon; nine grandchildren: Ellen, David, Neil, Suzie, Tim, Sean, Kevin, Jessica and Leigh-Ann; and eleven great- grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by three husbands, Raymond Berwald, Joseph Chambers, and Leo Stepnowski; son William Chambers; and sisters Jenny Rakich and Genevieve Hansen. A Funeral mass will be held at 11am on Thursday, January 26, 2012 at St. Richard's Catholic Church, 1509 Grand Ave, Racine. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia. Visitation with the family will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, January 25, from 6pm - 8 pm, and in the church on Thursday beginning at 10am. Margaret's family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. David Ross and to nurses Julie, Marty and Miranda at Wheaton Franciscan Hospital.
