Margie E. BarnesYORKMargie Ethel (Beatty) Barnes, 91, transitioned from her earthly home to her heavenly home on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Clarence Jackson and the late George Barnes.Margie was born on December 30, 1924, in Sunnyburn. She was the daughter of the late William Beatty and the late Odessa Beatty Pringle. She was the 4th of 10 children born to William and Odessa.Margie spent many years in California. She then relocated back to York and was employed by Fincor for many years. Margie joined Bethel AME Church where she and George both served on the Senior Usher Board for many years. Cooking and taking care of George (Honey) were high on her list of priorities. She loved her family and hosted many family dinners at her home. She was famous for her cakes, iced tea, and pickled eggs.Margie leaves to cherish her memory a son, Jerry Moss and his fiancée, Stephanie Perez of York; two stepdaughters, Avis (Jackson) Johnson of Fairfield, Calif., and Sherrie Barnes of Helmetta, N.J.; a stepson, Bradley Barnes and his wife, Audrey of Red Lion; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; several godchildren; a very special niece, Carlotta Barnes, and one brother, Charles Beatty and his wife, Mary, all of York; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Beatty of Baltimore, Md.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and a very special friend, Edith "Bitsy" Thomas. In addition to her parents and husbands, Margie was preceded in death by her brothers, James, Harold, Murel, and Ivan Beatty, and Richard Kyle; her sisters, Ella Mae Sims, Isabelle Liggins, Virginia Dillon, and Viesta Cotton; two stepdaughters, Sandra Barnes and Jan Barnes; and a stepson, Ronald Barnes.A viewing is scheduled for Tuesday, April 5, 2016, from 9 to 11 a.m. at Bethel AME Church, 350 W. Princess St., York 17401, with a service following at 11 a.m. with her pastor, Rev. Katherine E. Rose, officiating. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens, York. Boulding Mortuary, Inc., York, is handling arrangements.
