This obituary is administered by:
Margie Hoskins 1920 ~ 2016 Biloxi Margie Hoskins, age 96, passed away at Heaven's Harbor on Saturday, December 17, 2016 after a long illness, with family at her bedside. She was born on July 26, 1920 in Mathiston, MS. She graduated from Drew, MS High School then moved to Lodi, MS with family. There she entered nurses training at Winona Hospital in 1938 and when it closed she transferred to Mattie Hersey/Rush Hospital in Meridian, MS. Soon after graduating, and passing nurses' state board exams, in 1944 she married S/Sgt. Bill W. Hoskins and they moved to Biloxi when he was transferred to what was then known as Keesler Field. There she went to work at the New Biloxi Hospital. While there, her expert nursing abilities along with her organizational skills were noticed by a local physician recently separated from the military service named Dr. Eldon L. Bolton. He quickly realized that these attributes, along with her compassionate way of dealing with her patients, would be an asset in helping establish his medical practice. Together, they enjoyed a very successful medical practice until his death in 1990. She retired shortly after his death. During retirement and after she became homebound, she kept in contact with scores of friends she met during her nursing career and her church involvement, and positively influenced many young people, especially young airmen from Keesler AFB. Many of these remained in touch with her throughout her life. One of her greatest joys was following the lives and accomplishments of those she called "her babies." These were children born to mothers that she had helped care for during their pregnancies. She delighted in their every activity and accomplishment. She was a very giving, caring, and loving person always encouraging family and friends. She will be greatly missed by those privileged to know and love her. She was preceded in death by her parents, James H. and Nora Franklin Dodd; her husband, Bill Hoskins; a sister, Alma Lee Oglesby; two brothers, C.T. Dodd and H.H. Dodd; and a nephew, Curtis Oglesby. She is survived by several nieces and nephews: Janice Oglesby, Biloxi, MS; Jerry (Brenda) Oglesby, Raleigh, NC; Peggy (Delton) Moore, Jackson, MS; Patsy (Frank) Reese, Cleveland, MS; Anthony (Kathy) Dodd, Madison, MS; Debbie (Donald) Tolleston, Jackson, MS; Michael (Mary) Dodd, Memphis, TN; Wanda Dodd, Lakeland, TN; Patricia Russom and Shelia Ferguson, Hernando, MS; and her faithful and loving companion and caregiver for 16 years, Gwen Gee, to whom we owe undying gratitude for her compassionate care that allowed Margie to remain in her own home for those years. Our thanks also go to Debbie Roberson and her devoted staff, Rhonda, Crystal, and many others at Heaven's Harbor, for their care of Margie in the last two years of her illness. Margie was a long time member of FBC Biloxi and the Byota Sunday School class. She was a member of the original Singing Christmas Tree at FBC, both helping with the decorations and singing on the tree until ill health forced her to retire from that activity. In the last two years of her life, she was very excited to be affiliated with the newly formed Parkway Baptist Church in Woolmarket, MS. A highlight of her week was receiving the weekly sermon tapes and music service, and she enjoyed sharing them with her caregivers. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations be made to the Parkway Baptist Church Building Fund, 16372 Old Woolmarket Road, Biloxi, MS 39532. Services will be held Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Pass Road Chapel of Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home. Friends may visit two hours prior. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Park. View and sign register book at www.bradfordokeefe.com
