A life well lived

Maria De Jesus "Chita" Villareal (Trejo), 95, passed away on February 3, 2025, in El Paso, Texas. 

Born on January 5, 1930, in El Paso, Maria was a proud Bowie Bear. She carried her love for learning and dedication to excellence throughout her life.  

Maria found great joy in playing the piano and caring for her many grandchildren. She was known for her delicious tamales, gorditas, and other homemade dishes, which she lovingly shared with family and friends. Her talent extended to sewing and crocheting, where she paid meticulous attention to detail, creating beautiful clothes for her loved ones.  

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Inocente Villareal, and sons Alfredo, Edward, and David Villareal. She is survived by Patricia Romero, Elizabeth Zarate, Irene Serrano, Annette Holguin, Daniel Villareal, Barbara Gaxiola, Steven Villareal, Caroline Apodaca, Melinda Hall, and Charles Villareal.  

A burial service was held on February 13, 2025, at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in El Paso, Texas.  

Maria’s warmth and generosity will be deeply missed by all who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those she leaves behind.
