Maria Esther Valdez, 103, was called to our Lord on April 8, 2013, in Los Hueros.She was born on Oct. 7, 1909, to Jose Natividad Arguello and Crestina Pacheco-Arguello of Los Hueros.A member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Ocate.She was a devoted Carmelita of the Asociedad de Nuestra Señora del Carmel. She was united in marriage to Josue Valdez in August 1930, they had two children Nora and Rowland.She is preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and two sisters; husband, Josue Valdez; daughter, Nora Alcon; son-in-law, Alfonso Alcon; son, Rowland Rudy Valdez; and grandsons, George Valdez and Louie Espinoza.She is survived by granddaughters she raised, Shirley Salazar and husband Joe S., Joyce Alcon and Joe B. all of Los Hueros; great-grandchildren she raised, Kristie Tapia and husband Tim and daughter Isabella of Las Vegas, Angelica Salazar of Santa Fe, Joshua Salazar and daughter Addison of Los Hueros, Judi Andolino and husband Tim and daughters Alyssa and Samantha of Denver, Colo., Karrie Romero and children, Josh and Nevaeh of Denver, Colo., Jamie Romero and daughter Lilliana of Las Vegas; daughter-in-law: Sofia Valdez of Los Hueros; grandchildren: Roger Alcon and wife Sandra, Jannie Espinoza, Andy Alcon and Yvonne, Gerald Alcon and wife Bernice, Marvin Alcon and Liz all of Ojo Feliz, Randy Valdez and wife Pauline of Las Vegas, Doris Cook and husband Sam of Las Vegas, Kate Marquez and husband David of Sapello, Martin Valdez and wife Debbie, Rose Salas and husband Clarence all of Gallup, Annette Sanchez and husband Alfonso of Las Vegas, Ivan Valdez of Los Hueros, Charlene Valdez of Ribera; sister, Vitalia Vigil and husband Ben of Rapid City, S.D.; 34 great-grandchildren; 42 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.Rosary services were held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Ocate. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, with Father C. John Brasher as celebrant. Interment will follow at San Juan Bautista Cemetery in Los Hueros, with the following serving as casket bearers: Randall Espinoza, Alyssa Andolino, Charles Alcon, Sean Chavez, Charlotte Sanchez, Samantha Andolino, Santiago Jaramillo and Samuel Marquez.
