Maria M. Garcia passed away peacefully in her home on March 27, 2014 after an extended illness.Maria was an active foster grandparent at the East Las Vegas Schools. She was also an active member of the Catholic Daughters Court # 1301.Maria was born on Dec. 20, 1928 in Chacon, to the late Francisco and Irene Medina.She married Alfredo Garcia on Feb. 28, 1945 in Las Vegas.Maria was preceded in death by her husband, Alfredo; daughter, Anna Taylor; and son, Sam Garcia.She is survived by her children, Gloria Bustos of Palmdale, Calif.; Eddie Garcia of Las Vegas; Christina Abeyta (Louis II) of Albuquerque; Benny Garcia (Lillian), Sofia Martinez (Roy) all of Las Vegas; Johnny Garcia (Shela) of Greeley, Colo.; Anna Maria Garcia of Las Vegas; Thomas Gallegos (Gloria) of Mora; sister: Angie "Lupe" of Artesia; son-in-law: Chuck Taylor; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great - great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. today, March 31, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, April 1, at Our Lady of Sorrows Church with Father Douglas Mitchell as Celebrant. Interment will follow at San Jose Cemetery in Las Vegas with the following serving as casket bearers: Anthony Bustos, Jacob Bustos, Justin Garcia, Louie Abeyta III, Sam Garcia II and Andres Lujan.
