In Loving Memory of Maria Paula Casarez (Mejia), age 80, who passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2014. She was born on June 29, 1934 in La Junta Colorado. She moved to Salinas, California at the age of 1 and lived here for 79 years. She worked for the Salinas Union High School District as an instructional aide for many years and retired in 1995. Paula enjoyed watching little league baseball games and keeping score. She was President for one year and Player Agent for National Little League for many years. During her years of service there, she made sure that every child had a chance to play. She also enjoyed gardening, going for walks, and watching San Francisco Giants baseball games. She most of all enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren; whom she loved dearly. Paula always had "open arms" for anyone in need and she will be missed by many. She is survived by her brothers, Manuel (Lala) Mejia and Valentine Mejia; children, Catherine (John) Soltesz, Esther Villa, Robert (Tina) Villa, Danny (Mary) Villa, Albert ("Queenie") Villa, Lydia (George) Garcia, Anita (Abel G.) Casarez and George Casarez; 23 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends Paula is preceded in death by her parents, Jose Salome and Ausencia "Chencha” Mejia, sister, Mary Barron and her son, Augustine Villa.
