Marian L. Brunette 1931—2016Marian L. Brunette, 84, died at her home on Saturday, September 17 after many years of battling the effects of rheumatic fever that she had as a teenager. She was born on October 11, 1931 in Milladore, WI to Joseph and Margaret (Williams) Baierl. She married the love of her life, Henry (Don) Brunette, on September 17, 1953 at Sacred Heart Parish in Marshfield, WI. Marian graduated from Marshfield High School and earned a Teacher's Aide Certificate from Highland Community College. Don and Marian had 6 children: Dave (Kathy), Sonoma, CA; Bob (Barbara), Madison WI; Greg (Mary), Lake Oswego, OR; Theresa Ann, died at birth; Mary (Nick) Tagliareni, Islamorada, FL; and Mike (Rhonda), Machesney Park, IL. They were also blessed with 9 grandchildren Vanessa, Natalie, Nate, Ben, Dan, Lauren, Zach, Emily and Craig and 1 great-granddaughter Vivian. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Joan and her brother Art. She is survived by her siblings Bernard, Jerry, Delores, Janice and Dick. Marian was an amazing full time wife and Mom, but over the years she did work at the YWCA in the nursery, at FACC, and as a Teacher's Aide in the Freeport School District. While working at St. Thomas Elementary School she developed a Resource Center to foster her love of reading and learning in the students. Marian was also appointed by Bishop Arthur J. O'Neill to work in the position of Advocate on the Rockford Diocese Marriage Tribunal. As a lifetime member of the Girl Scouts she volunteered for the Green Hills Council as a Troop Leader, Area Coordinator, and served many years on the Board of Directors as an at-large member and as Secretary. In recognition of her work Marian was awarded the Girl Scouts' Thanks Badge, the highest adult volunteer award, and the St. Anne Medal. Marian also served as Secretary of the Board of Directors for the Auxiliary of Presence Saint Joseph Center. Over the years, she was a staple at all of their events and baked thousands of cookies for the annual Cookie Walk.A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 23, 2016 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 1400 Kiwanis Drive, Freeport. A visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2016 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, 504 N. Walnut Ave., Freeport where there will be a scripture service at 4 p.m. Visitation will also be held the morning of the service from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the church. Burial will be held at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Presence Saint Joseph Center in Freeport.
