Marian Rosalie Gregson Gabrio passed away on November 9th , 2014 in Capitola at 93 years old. She was born in Dinuba, California September 29th , 1921 to Albert Edward Gregson and Esther Germaine Colburn Gregson. She attended school in Stockton, California, received her A.A. degree from College of the Pacific (now University of Pacific) and then completed her business degree at Maud Cornwell's School of Business. While in Stockton, Marian was a secretary at AT&T and later a receptionist for Yale Brody M.D. Marian married Frank Joseph Gabrio on April 27th , 1944 in Santa Cruz. They returned to the county a few years later, living nearly 70 years in Santa Cruz. Marian loved to read. She frequented the Santa Cruz Public Library, especially the Branciforte Branch. When she could no longer visit the library herself, she was thrilled when a volunteer 'book buddy' from the library regularly brought her new books to read. Genealogical research was Marian's other passion. She carefully researched her family's genealogy without the advantage of modern technology by writing letters, requesting public records, and using microfiche. Marian is survived by her children James Edward Gabrio (Arleen), Jeffery Barton Bays Gabrio (Catherine), and son-in-law Samuel Leask. Marian has one sister, Margery Joyce Gregson Nohrden (John). Marian was blessed with eight grandchildren, Lea Gabrio Barr (Daniel), Candice Gabrio, Simone Leask, Lisanne Leask, Gregson Bays Gabrio, Peter Bays Gabrio (Megan), Stephen Bays Gabrio, and Elizabeth Bays Gabrio. Her great-grandchildren are David Gabrio, Evelynn Barr, and Jimmy Barr. Marian was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Joseph Gabrio and daughter, Lisa Frances Gabrio Leask. Her family sends a special thank you to the loving caregivers at Maple House II in Santa Cruz and Hospice of Santa Cruz County. A memorial service is planned with Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel on November 21st , 2014 at 3pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Native Animal Rescue, Project Purr, Book Buddies at Santa Cruz Library, or Hospice of Santa Cruz County.
