Marie Collins, 73, of Brawley, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011. Marie was born on October 7, 1938. She graduated from Our Lady of Peace in San Diego at attended college at USD. On August 4, 1964 she was married to Clenard Collins at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Marie was the owner of Las Palmas Mexican restaurant, which later closed in 2003, and was also co-owner of Adobe Restaurant with her husband, Clenard until 2000. She was active with the American Legion in Brawley. Marie will always be remembered in the community for her generosity, always attending everyone's wedding, funeral, baby showers with food from Las Palmas. We will also remember her for her special quesadilla's and bean dip. She loved to watch her Spanish novelas with her dear friend Vera and her trusting companion dog, Lola Mae, who also passed on. In 2008, she moved to San Diego to be with her loving daughter and grandchildren. In Marie's final months as she battled Leukemia, she was surrounded by her wonderful husband, daughter and son-in-law, who took wonderful care of her. She always said she had the best son-in-law in the world. Maria loved her daughter Missie more than words could say. Missie was her only child and she felt she was truly blessed. Marie was not only a grandma to her own, but Nana to many others. A memorial service will take place Saturday, December 10 at Sacred Heart Church in Brawley at 10 a.m., and will be officiated by Father Alex Aquino.
