Marie Durand (Ryland)LAFAYETTE - Marie Durand (Ryland) died peacefully at Camelot of Broussard nursing home on August 2, 2017 in Broussard, Louisiana at the age of 97.Marie is survived by her daughter, Donnie Lauve of Dallas, Texas; her grandchildren, Vickie
Smith and husband, Steve (Colorado Springs CO), and Merrit Strunk and wife, Kathrin (Valley Center, CA); nephew, Rhett Ryland and niece Sonya Dell Millican (Ryland). Marie also had many great grandchildren Cecilie and Mason Strunk and Caleb, Joshua, Josiah, and Hannah Smith. She is preceded in death by her parents "Nettie" and Garnett Ryland, husband Claude Durand (Lafayette LA). Marie was born on December 16, 1919 in Ruby Wise, LA, she once recounted how the doctor that brought her into the world arrived in a horse drawn wagon. Her family remembers her as adventurous, free spirited, incredibly witty, and independent. Marie lived life on her own terms and suffered no fools. She had a way of interacting with people that attracted friends and people that cared for her. Marie was always laughing and when she did, her laugh was patently boisterous and contagious. Marie had a full and varied life highlighted by her time as a wartime "rivet girl" building planes and equipment for WWII, casino blackjack dealer, a card carrying "special agent" complete with .38 Caliber pistol, worked at a beauty salon, clerical support at Acadiana Hot Oil and Construction Company. Later in life she was "Nanny" to Harry Bourque, Jr. Private Burial was held at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. Condolences can be sent to the family at
