Marie Edith Holmes, a loving mother to LaWanda and Reggie, was born December 10, 1935, in Midwest City, Oklahoma, to Sewright and Alberta Jones. She was the baby of 10 children.
She accepted Christ at an early age, graduated from Carl Albert High, then relocated to Los Angeles, California. She became a member of Lincoln Avenue Church and belonged to the hospitality committee. She completed a few courses at Pasadena City College. She worked at a local laundromat for a few years, took some time off, then stated her career as a postal clerk in 1974 until retirement in 2013. During her retirement, she joined the Redhatters. She was very active with this group. She enjoyed playing cards, dominoes, friends, and family gatherings. She took trips with the seniors from Jackie Robinson Center and volunteered to feed the homeless. Marie was a quiet, gentle, yet very humble woman with a big heart. She was known for giving rides to other seniors and helping anyone in need.
She leaves to cherish her memories: her children, LaWanda Laster and Reginald Holmes; grandchildren, Jasmine Laster, and Courtland Holmes; great-grandchildren, Trevaughn, Jayde, Laniya, Mia, Kire, Julian, Jaesa, Jeremiah, Kory, and Braiden; and special friends, Chrestina and Clay; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
