MARIE HENRY
ALTON — Marie E. Henry, 83, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday morning, Dec. 10, 2016, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born on Jan. 29, 1933, in Alton, the daughter of the late Homer and Cornelia (Jones) Rose. She married Buford Henry on Dec. 22, 1956, in Alton, and he survives. Other survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Cheryl and Greg Johnson of Godfrey, Beth and Alan Herbstreit of Godfrey, one son and daughter-in- law: David and Kris Henry of Godfrey, twelve grandchildren: Steve B. Henry, Jr., Amber Henry, Jaycee (Solomon) Tsfazgie, Aaron Henry, Megan Henry, Brad Henry, Nick (Jayme) Herbstreit, Sam Herbstreit, Thomas (Beth) Richards, Andrew (Megan) Johnson, Amanda (Andy) Irwin, Adam Johnson, seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Charles Rose of Norwalk, California, two sisters-in-law, Lena Baze, Pansy Schuetz, and a special niece and caregiver, Sonya Tucker.
A homemaker, she formerly was employed at the Garment Factory in Alton. She enjoyed gardening, plants, and flowers. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. She enjoyed taking care of people and baking pies. She loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Steven Henry, Sr., an infant brother, Benjamin, and a brother, Donald.
In celebration of her life, visitation will be from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13, 2016, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2016, at the funeral home. Rev. Douglas Haynes will officiate. Burial will follow at Upper Alton Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Godfrey Church of the Nazarene and will be accepted at the funeral home.
