MARIE ELLEN PIPER, 90 FREEPORT - Marie Ellen Piper, 90 yrs. old, of Freeport died Friday, July 17, 2015 at Presence St. Joseph's Center in Freeport. She was born on July 23, 1924 in Freeport, a daughter of Joseph and Genora (Yoder) Oppold. She married Melvin Piper. They lived on a dairy farm while she also worked at Micro Switch for thirty years. She was famous for her Mac & Cheese that was her specialty. Marie attended Richland Free Methodist Church and First Church of The Open Bible. Survivors include her daughter, Donna(Pinkie) (Bill) McCourt, her great grandaughter, Allie Marie Boland, her sisters, Vera Boswell of Winnebago and Betty Duray of Freeport, her sisters-in-law, Shirley (John) Oppold of Pearl City, Shirley (Joey) Oppold of Stockton, and Cass(Bud) Oppold of Stockton, two very special caregivers, Letty Christon and Sandy Petran (The Dorts). She was preceded in death by her parents, her granddaughters, Tina Marie McCourt Boland and Vallie Jo McCourt, her brothers, Frank, Joey, and John Oppold and her sister, Joyce Rees. Thanks to the staff at FHN Hospice and staff and residents at Presence St. Joseph's Center for your support and caring. Services will be at 11 a.m. on Wed., July 22, 2015 at the Schwarz Park Blvd. Chapel, 608 S. Park Blvd. with Rev. Lyle Babcock officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery.
