Marie Payne Sims was born one of 13 children on October 10, 1922, in Greenville, Texas. Her family moved to the panhandle area when she was three years old. She graduated from Kress High School. She married Corky Sims August 12, 1939, and they had three children. They lived in California 1942-1948; Kress, Plainview and in 1948 moved to Tulia Texas where they later became charter members of Calvary Baptist Church. In 1964, they moved to New Mexico. She had five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.She was very talented in many areas - anything from canning to driving a nail. She and Corky built their home themselves in Logan, New Mexico. Marie was very active in the Logan community for many years: worked at Gentry's grocery store; helped organize, held office and was a member of Logan Extension Club; volunteer for Senior Citizens; member of First Baptist Church and her Sunday School class; delegate for the Baptist Associational Annual Meeting as well as the Baptist State Convention; Workhorse of the Year Award from Senior Citizens; and Citizen of the Year 2005. Marie and Corky were crowned King and Queen Valentine at First Baptist one year.Marie was a talented seamstress, sewing everything from her granddaughters Barbie outfits, clothes for all the family members, pillow cases for the local graduates, baby blankets for the newborns to her granddaughters wedding gown. She quilted and crocheted for many years, entering these items as well as her excellent canned goods in the local, county and tri-state fairs and won many blue ribbons at each. She broadened her skills by taking local courses in tailoring, reupholstering and drapery construction.Her family and friends treasured her. She was a strong and faithful Christian. She and Corky led their family by example, passing along their faith to each member of the family. She went home to be with her Lord on Wednesday November 30, 2016, in Logan, New Mexico at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her husband Corky Sims; both of her daughters, Pat Anderson and Gay Sims of Tulia Texas; her son-in-law, Walter Anderson; and all 12 of her siblings.Marie is survived by her son, Steve Sims of Logan, New Mexico; five grandchildren, Belinda Mollan and her husband Walter, Teresa Jackson, Carl Anderson, Eddie Sims and Pam Bramhall; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.Celebration of life services will be at Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia Texas on Tuesday December 6, 2016, at 10:00 AMCDT. Burial will be at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia Texas next to her husband Corky Sims.
