Our Beloved Marilyn Denise Jones
Marilyn Denise Jones was born on October 2, 1956, to her loving parents Lonzo and Queen Esther. Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her siblings, Patricia Jones-Curtis, Deborah Jones, Darryl Johnson and Denita Johnson. In 1977 Marilyn gave birth to her first son, Marcus, and in 1986 she gave birth to her second son, Marquan. This boy duo developed music talent that made Marilyn proud, as she would brag about their music talent whenever the subject of music came up. Marilyn was extremely proud of her sons' accomplishments in education. Marcus a graduate of Ohio Media School for Broadcasting and Marquan a graduate of Morehouse College.
Marilyn was an exceptional individual who excelled in her studies at Cleveland Public School Systems where she graduated high school in 1974, at the age of 17. Marilyn worked as a Nursing Assistant at nursing facilities and private duty on and off throughout the years. Marilyn continued her academic pursuits at Cleveland State University. In 2008, Marilyn received the "Gold Key" to the "Honor Society." This was a big accomplishment, as Marilyn never earned a grade lower than a B.
Marilyn was a volunteer for various community organizations such as the Music Settlement, NAACP and a Thrift Store of a friend's family member. Marilyn enjoyed bicycling, long walks for exercise, writing poems, (a book of her poems were published) and reading. Most of all, she enjoyed and Loved spending time with her granddaughter, Imani Queen. Marilyn was caught by one of the labor and delivery nurses peeking through the window of the birthing room and witnessed Imani first minute of life in this world. Marilyn's presence was heavy in Imani's life since day one, until the day she went home. She was a huge part of Imani's village.
Though Marilyn may no longer be with us, her memory will forever be cherished by all those who knew and loved her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering strength. Rest in peace, dear Marilyn.
