Mrs. Marilyn F. Fleek passed away on Friday, August 26 at her home in Rock Hill, SC. She was ninety years old. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 30 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel on Ebenezer Road in Rock Hill from 5:30 PM until 7:00 PM. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 31 at Forest Hills Cemetery located on Old York Road in Rock Hill. The service will be officiated by the Reverend Sally Franklin of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fort Mill, SC. Mrs. Fleek was born on March 11, 1926 and was the daughter of Mr. Robert M. Fryer and Flo Wilson Fryer of Marion, Indiana. In 1944, the family moved to Houston, TX where she began working in the accounting department of Gulf Oil. It was there she met her next door neighbor, Mr. M. B. "Mike" Fleek and in 1949 they married in St. Stephens Episcopal Church in Houston. Upon moving to Rock Hill, SC in 1949, Mr. & Mrs. Fleek remained married for 62 years until separated by his death in 2011. A lifelong Episcopalian, Mrs. Fleek was a member of both the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in Rock Hill and St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Fort Mill. At the Church of our Savior, she taught 3rd grade Sunday School for 18 years, served one term as Secretary to the ECW Eastern District, and was one of the first two women to serve at the 1970 General Convention of the Diocese of Upper South Carolina. At St. Paul's she taught Sunday School, served one term as clerk of the vestry, was a Delegate to two Diocesan Conventions, and was the Church Historian for 42 years. Mrs. Fleek loved art and was a sponsor of the Art Council of Rock Hill. She loved to draw and paint, she loved music, was passionate about plants and enjoyed creating her own fashions on the sewing machine. She is survived by her two sons, Arnold R. Fleek of Potomac Falls, VA and Paul W. Fleek of Charlotte, NC, a sister, Mrs. Roberta G. Wetzel of Lafayette, LA, a niece, Mrs. Rebecca G. Sonnier, and two nephews, Mr. Steven A. Gardes and Mr. Robert A. Gardes, all of Lafayette, LA. The family would like to thank Hospice and Community Care of Rock Hill for their caring assistance through the end of life. Also, thanks to Bright Star Care of Fort Mill, SC for all the remarkable assistance in helping our Mother to remain at home which was her wish. A very special thanks to Mrs. Geraldine Taylor of Chester, SC who was not only someone who helped our Mother for 15 years, she is also a valued friend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 501 Pine Street, Fort Mill, SC 29715.
