Marion I. “Bud” Kelley, 91, Atchison, Kansas died Sunday, July 3, 2022 at Country Care Nursing Facility, Easton, Kansas.
Bud was born July 17, 1931 in Atchison, Kansas the son of Guy Paul Kelley, Sr., and Mary Cluke Kelley. He attended Lincoln School and graduated from Atchison High School.
He and Alberta Clayton were united in marriage on May 5, 1957 in Atchison, Kansas. Alberta preceded him in death on April 18, 1983. He then married Cheryl Todd on November 20, 1983 and she preceded him in death on May 9, 2014.
Bud began his employment with Locomotive Finished Materials (L.F.M.) in Atchison and later became employed with Kansas Power & Light Company where he served for 25 years until his retirement in 1998. Following his retirement he drove a school bus for USD 409 and owned and operated the Bud Kelley and Son’s Cleaning Service.
Bud served his country with the United States Navy from September 10, 1951 until his honorable discharge on September 9, 1955.
He was an active member of Shiloh Baptist Church of Atchison. He was chairman of the Church Deacon Board; a choir member; and chairman of the laymen for the Northeastern District, and drove the bus for Camp Ascension. Bud was also a member of the NAACP. In his spare time he loved to share his talent of singing, he sang with the Navy Bluejacket Honors Guard; the Atchison Rivermen; the Kelley Family Choir and sang for numerous weddings and funerals. He was also an avid sports enthusiast.
Survivors include eight sons, Rev. Michael (Gladys) Kelley, Atchison, KS; Marion Kelley, Jr., Stockbridge, GA; Marcus (Tammi) Kelley, Sr., Atchison, KS; Mario (Missy) Kelley, Atchison, KS; Sean Tolson, Atchison, KS; Billy (Vickie) Lewis, Wichita, KS; Alfred “Al” Steed, Kansas City, MO, Dwayne (Liz) Anthony, Atchison, KS; four daughters, Rela Kelley, Atchison, KS; Roxanna McMillian, Topeka, KS; Rosiland (Rick) Stillman, Atchison, KS; Dian Cunningham, Dalton, GA; two brothers, Otha “Dude” (Anna) Kelley, Atchison, KS; George (Rita) Kelley, Sr., Atchison, KS; a sister, Viola (Oddis) Lewis, Detroit, MI; twenty four grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and a great-great granddaughter, Harmony Foster.
Bud was preceded in death by a son, Brock Tolson; a granddaughter, Abigail Kelley; a grandson, Rev. Sean Kelley; a great-great grandson, Amere Allen; brothers, Guy Paul Kelley, Jr.; Lewis Kelley, Sr.; William Henry Kelley; Michael McNair; and sisters, Sylvia Busey; Elnora Garlington; Loretta Downing and Ethel Downing.
