Marion Goold AsherStaatsburg - Marion Goold Asher, a longtime Staatsburg resident died Friday October 28, 2016 at the Baptist Home in Rhinebeck, N.Y. Marion was born on December 5, 1925 in Kinderhook, N.Y., she was the daughter of Mabel and Arthur Goold. In 1938, they moved to Staatsburg, N.Y., where Marion attended and graduated from the Staatsburg Union School in 1943. She graduated from Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. in 1948. In 1948, she married Donald Asher who predeceased her in 1984. They had two daughters Elizabeth, and Suzanne. Marion was a school Librarian at Ralph R. Smith Elementary School in Hyde Park, N.Y., from 1966 until she retired in 1986. She was an avid reader and gardener. Marion was one of the founding members of the Vanderbilt Garden Association, and she was a board member of the Staatsburg Library for many years. She is survived by her daughter, Suzanne, and son in-law, Gary Glancey, of Staatsburg, N.Y., and her son in-law, William Kennett, of Scarsdale, N.Y. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Michael Glancey and wife, Patty, Megan Riddle and husband, Joseph, Andrew Glancey and wife, Michela, Deanna Kennett Kobrinksky and husband, Aryeh, and Daniel Kennett; and three great-grandchildren Madeline Glancey, Charles Riddle, and Emily Glancey; and her beloved cat, Oliver. In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. Memorial calling hours will be from 6 to 8 pm, Thursday, November 3rd at Sweet's Funeral Home Inc., Route 9, Hyde Park. Burial of her ashes in the family plot in Rhinebeck Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the F. W.
