Marion Johnson Denton passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Jan. 31, 2013. She was born on August 15, 1927, in Washington, D.C. She met the love of her life, Leon Denton, on a blind date during WW II in Maryland. They were married Nov. 29, 1949, later solemnized in the Logan LDS Temple Oct. 16, 1969. Marion was happiest when she had all of her family around her. She loved doing things with her children and grandchildren. She had a kind and loving nature and would do what she could to help anyone in need. One of her favorite hobbies was reading. She loved to read, and always had a book or newspaper near her. She served many years as a literacy volunteer. She worked 20 years at the USU Bookstore as manager of the general book department and was very knowledgeable about all kinds of books. She was an active member of the LDS Church, and served in many positions, including 11 years of service at the Logan Temple. Marion touched many lives throughout her life, and those that were fortunate enough to know her felt very blessed.She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Wilhelmina Johnson; two sisters, Doris Johnson and Lorraine Frederick; a son, Steven (Cathy) Denton; two granddaughters, Carolyn (Rick) Elder and Kaylee Volkman; a grandson-in-law, T.J. Fluckiger (Jenna Frandsen, granddaughter); and a son-in-law, Ken (Beverly) Volkman. She is survived by her devoted husband, Leon Denton; five children: Audrie (Gordon) Goldsberry, Donna (Chris) Conner, Helen (Jeff) Jeppsen, Gary (Roxie) Denton, and Beverly Volkman; 22 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express deep gratitude to the loving service rendered by the caregivers from Intermountain Home Care and Hospice, and the many family, neighbors, and ward friends for compassion service rendered. Funeral services will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, 2013, in the Smithfield 1st Ward chapel, 79 E. 200 South. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Nelson Funeral Home, 85 S. Main, Smithfield and Monday at the church from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Smithfield City Cemetery.
