Marion Rose Griggs Obituary

Sep 20, 1949 - Jul 02, 2020

This obituary is administered by:

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us everyday.

On Thursday, July 2, 2020, Marion (May) Rose Griggs, loving partner, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin, passed away at age 70.

Marion was born September 20, 1949 in Clayton, Georgia to Rose & Doc James Griggs.

She graduated from Woodland High School in 1967, Woodland, WA, she went onto get her training in Cosmetology at McGee Brothers, Vancouver, WA, following her completion she went onto train other future stylists. She was known for her ability to create beautiful hair styles. She moved on from cosmetology, after marrying and becoming a mother.

Marion had a lifelong love for horses. Having rode throughout her childhood, she passed her love onto her daughter, doing 4-H and numerous horse competitions always being her daughters biggest fan. Marion had an artistic-crafty side and was always creating gifts for her family and loved ones.

Marion loved country music and was known in the small town of Woodland, and surrounding areas as the Lady that drove the little red pick-up with the Lyrics "Hello Darlin...", by Conway Twitty on the hood of that truck. She loved to dance and spending time with her family and friends.

She was longtime employed in the service industry, working as a cabinet builder at the original Hayes Cabinets up Hayes Route Rd, working many years at Lamiglass and G. Loomis fishing rod factories, she later worked at the Wagon Wheel as a bartender, and the Riverside Tavern both were popular spots in Woodland, later she co-owned The Idle Hour Tavern with her sister Barb until closing and finally retiring.

After retiring, Marion and her longtime partner moved into the country and started raising Miniature American Horses, which rekindled the passion for horses that she always carried. She continued to raise and breed these horses as well as rescued dogs and cats, finding homes for most and keeping some. She also had mini goats and pot bellied pigs. Marion always loved all kinds of animals and would never turn away an animal that needed rescued.

She remained in Woodland, WA her entire adult life.

Marion is preceded in death by her parents, Rose and Doc James Griggs, her sisters Betty Bennett, Barbara Latham and Brenda Lee.

She is survived by her longtime partner Paul Anderson, Sr., Woodland, WA; daughter Jamie Hatfield, son-in-law Kenny Smith, granddaughter Sierra Rose Taylor, all of Yale Valley, WA; sisters & brothers-in-laws Tiny & Michael LeClair, Chahelis, WA; Marilyn & Calvin Dickerson, Kalama, WA; & Sister, Sandi Griner, Franklin, NC; as well as several cousins, and numerous nieces, nephews and grand nieces & nephews, who she truly loved very much.

Because of COVID-19, we are unable, at this time, to have any type of gatherings. Because of this, we will, at a later date and time (to be determined), plan to gather, celebrate a life well lived, laugh and share good memories for any family and friends who wish to join us.

You can to the family or in memory of Marion Griggs.
