Marjorie G. Loewenstein 1923 - 2016Marjorie Goldberg Loewenstein, 93, passed away on October 29, 2016 at Regency Nursing Home. She was born on July 11, 1923, in Chicago, to Edmund (Eddie) and Bertha (Birdie) Goldberg. She married Ralph Loewenstein in Chicago, IL. on March 9, 1946, 10 days after he returned from W.W. II. She moved to Springfield after they married, where she lived for the remainder of her life. They shared 63 years together until he preceded her in death in 2009. She is survived by two sons, Ralph Loewenstein (Carol) of Springfield and John Loewenstein (Noel Goding) of St. Louis; and four grandchildren, Katharine Loewenstein (Jimmy Deeb), James Loewenstein, Zachary Loewenstein, and Abigayle Pfeiffer (Stephen). She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Finder. Marjorie attended the
University of Illinois where she met her future husband. She graduated from the University of Chicago. After raising her family, she worked as a travel agent for over 20 years. This allowed her and her husband to travel the world, something that both of them loved. Marjorie was also a life master bridge player. But most of all, she loved spending time with her lifelong friends and her family. Marjorie was a member of Temple B'rith Sholom Temple for 70 years, where she once served as sisterhood president. She also served on the Board of Family Service Center and was a member of the Jewish Federation of Springfield. Funeral services will be held at Temple B'rith Sholom, 1004 S. Fourth Street, Springfield at 11:00 AM, with Rabbi Michael Datz presiding. Visitation will be immediately before the service beginning at 10:00 AM. Burial will be immediately following the services at Oak Ridge Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Temple B'rith Sholom, the Jewish Federation of Springfield, and the Central Illinois Foodbank, University of Chicago School of Business or any .
