Marjorie Helen ThomasGermantown, TNMarjorie Helen Thomas, 91, passed away on March 27, 2017 at Methodist Hospital Germantown, two of her children by her side. Helen was born on 9/1/1925 in Cullman County, Alabama, and had lived in Memphis since the late 1940's. She was a long-time member of Second Baptist Church, which was an important part of her life. She was a dedicated employee of the University of Memphis Library for 35 years, retiring at the age of 84. She was also a dedicated member of the Arlington Developmental Center Parent Guardian Association. She loved traveling, flowers, azaleas, working in her yard, and was a long-time spectator of the St. Jude golf tournament. She was known by all for her love of walking, even after she moved into assisted living. She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Miles E. Thomas; a daughter, Lisa Thomas; and a sister, Jo Hicks. She is survived by her two daughters, Lynn Gillespie of Dallas TX and Carole Epley (Jim); one son, Miles S. Thomas (Rachel); one brother, Carrolton Hyatt (Peggy) of Arley, Al; five grandchildren, Amy Nighbert (Sean) of San Marcos, TX, Miles Epley, Hyatt Brunetti (Olivier) of Lannilis, France, Thomas Jordan, and Clark Gillespie; five great grandchildren, Kendall Nighbert and Walker Nighbert and Isobella Jordan and Audrey Gillespie and Abel Gillespie; and 13 nieces and nephews.Visitation will be at Memorial Park Funeral Home, Poplar Avenue at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 31, followed by the funeral service at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial be sent to Second Baptist Church, 4680 Walnut Grove Rd, Memphis TN 38117.
