Mark Gibbs GallowayMark Gibbs Galloway, 95, passed away 7/17/17 in Mooresville, NC. Mr. Galloway was born on October 16, 1921 in Syracuse, New York to the late Wilbur and Alice Gibbs Galloway. He proudly served his country in the United States Army Air Corps. reaching the rank of 2nd Lt..Mark (aka"Bud") was raised south of Syracuse on a farm in the fertile Onondaga Valley where he attended high school. He pioneered lacrosse, the game originated by the Onondaga Indians, utilizing sticks they'd famously hand hewn. He excelled as a hockey goal tender before the use of helmets, face masks, body padding and enclosed, manicured ice rinks. He played and later coached both sports at Colgate University where he was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Shortly after
WWII Mr. Galloway served as a United States Ambassador of Peace when he participated in a six game hockey exhibition tour of Japan which culminated with a State dinner at the Emperor's palace.Mark was preceded in death by his wife, Georgette Perryman, whom he met in college. They established a home in Hillsdale, New Jersey to be near her family and Mark worked for her father George, an inventor, in several businesses over many years while enjoying his Studebaker Coupe, Moto Guzzi shaft drive motorcycle and 4 cylinder Saab Sonnet fiberglass body 2 seat sports car. Eventually he became a franchisee for Dairy Queen at the T-Bowl Shopping Plaza in Wayne, NJ. and later created a retail outlet for Welsh Farms Dairy in West Caldwell, NJ.Mr. Galloway is survived by his twin sister Martha Fluke and youngest sibling Tom. He leaves behind his children, Meredith Kistner and husband Richard of Mooresville; Theodore Galloway and wife Karen (Morrissey) of West Nyack, NY, and Kathy Wrenn of Charleston, SC. He was a proud grandfather to Sara and Mark Galloway, Amey Wrenn and the Kistner's daughters Kristine Magner and Jennifer Kowaleski, and great-grandfather (Pop) to Bobbie and Shane Kowaleski.There are no services scheduled at this time.Carolina Cremation of Charlotte and Salisbury is serving the Galloway family.
