It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Marla Thompson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and teacher. Marla was born on October 31, 1944, in Alexandria, Virginia, United States, to parents Noah and Michelle Brett.

Marla was married to Maxwell Thompson in 1967 and they had three children together: Gerald Thompson with spouse Pam, Leroy Thompson with spouse Helen, and Jennifer Smith with spouse Kevin. She was a dedicated and loving mother who always put her family first. Marla is also survived by six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four brothers, and six sisters.

In addition to being a devoted wife and mother, Marla was also a respected teacher at Alexandria Public Schools. She was passionate about education and dedicated her career to shaping the minds and hearts of her students. She retired back in 1987 because of her husbands death.

Marla fought bravely against breast cancer, but sadly passed away on May 17, 2023. Her positive attitude and unwavering spirit throughout her illness were an inspiration to all who knew her. Her legacy will live on through the love and memories shared by her family and friends.

Marla is survived by her three loving children, six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, four brothers, and six sisters. As a family, they mourn her loss but find comfort in the knowledge that she is now at peace. Rest in peace, dear Marla.
