Scholten, Marlene K.Marlene K. Scholten, wife of William E. Scholten, peacefully passed away on Friday, February 17, 2017 at St. Paul's Elder Home in Kaukauna after a courageous journey with Parkinson's/Lewy Body Dementia. Marlene was born on August 28, 1936 in Manitowoc. She was the daughter of the late William H. and Olive J. (Beerntsen) Schaus. Marlene attended Manitowoc Schools and graduated from Lincoln High School with the class of 1954. She continued her education and graduated from Teletype School in Omaha, Nebraska. Marlene then became employed by the American Red Cross in Macon, Georgia. She met Bill at a Friday Night Fish Fry, they fell in love and were later married on September 6, 1958 at Holy Innocents Catholic Church in Manitowoc by Rev. Henry Scholten, Bill's uncle.Marlene and Bill were blessed with and survived by five devoted children, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren: Sara (Jamie Farfone) Scholten; Suzie (Steve) Kolstad and their children, Kelly (Daniel) Thiel and Kevin; Stuart and his children, Michael and Laura (Dave) Geszvain and their son, Otto, and daughter, Gretta; Sandra (Dick) Flynn and their sons, Kyle and Keegan; and Steve and his twin sons, Cameron and Cody. Marlene is further survived by her husband of 58 years and best friend: Bill; three sisters-in-law and their husbands: Kay Schaus, Mary (Dick) Lies, and Jane (Dr. John) Crowe; a special niece, Kristi Reschke and her family, and Marlene's siblings: Nancy Farek, Kathy Koehler, and Tim (Jill) Schaus along with other special family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents: William and Olive Schaus; and one brother: Ronald Schaus.Marlene enjoyed being a member of many ladies groups in Manitowoc and of The Friends of Potawatomi State Park in retirement. She often took her grandchildren to the park for picnics on the shoreline and hikes in the woods. Marlene also loved the challenge of babysitting and playing cards with her family She enjoyed spending time at Sand Bay in Door County and wintering in Florida. She and Bill led the "good life" thanks to all that made it possible including our brave military. Her family will always remember her evening prayer, "Now I lay me down to sleep………………………God Bless……………….See you in Heaven!Memorial services will be held 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home. Officiating will be Rev. Gerald Foley. Relatives and friends may call at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 10 a.m. until the time of services at 11:30 a.m. Following the memorial service there will be a luncheon at the Harrigan Parkside Gathering Center located on the south property of the funeral home. Cremation has taken place at the Harrigan Parkside Crematory and Chapel.The family would like to express their special thanks to the staff of Parkside Care Center and St. Paul's Elder Home for their tender loving care during Marlene's journey.In Lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorials in Marlene's memory to Friends of Potawatomi State Park Inc.
