Marlyn E. RandMarlyn Rand, 91 died Saturday, August 12, 2017 at the Tieszen Memorial Home in Marion. Funeral services will be at 11:00am Friday, August 18, 2017 at the First Baptist Church, Parker with family burial in the Monroe Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3-4:00pm Thursday at the Tieszen Home Chapel and with family present from 5-7pm at the Hofmeister Jones Funeral Home, Parker.Marlyn Elwood Rand was born on October 18, 1925, to Eilert and Annie (Gortmaker Stohr) Rand. At the age of four, he lost his arm in a farm accident. He grew up on a farm in rural Monroe, attended country school and went to Canistota and Parker High School. After graduating from Parker in 1945, Marlyn attended SDSU and Nettleton Commercial College and worked at Pumpkin Center. Marlyn attended Spring Valley Baptist Church in his younger years, and after that, First Baptist Church in Parker. On April 11, 1954, Marlyn was united in marriage to Caryl Ann Johnson. They were blessed with four children, James, Kathryn, Richard and Larry. Marlyn's life was saddened when Caryl passed away September 20, 2014, and Larry passed away February 2, 2017. Marlyn farmed in the Monroe area most of his life and also did heating and air conditioning repairs.In April, 2008, Marlyn entered the Tieszen Memorial Home, Marion, SD. He enjoyed the staff and care he received throughout the years he resided there.Marlyn is survived by his children James (Sharla), Parker; Kathryn (Brian) Schmidt, Marion; and Richard (Demme), Parker; and Larry's wife, Margaret Rand, Parker. Grandchildren are Sara Schmidt, April (Mike) Flannery, Matthew (Josie) Rand, Jonathan (Angela) Rand, Tyler (Amanda) Rand, Amanda (Tyson) Reher, Craig (Jessica) Leseberg, Haylee (Aaron) Sherard, Amie (Noah) Brandt, Jane (Harvey Jr.) Hertel and Dawn (Paul) Muller.Great grandchildren are Vanessa Larosier, Jayden and Brooklyn Flannery, Aspen, Wyatt, Levi, Carl, Breslyn, Hadley and Raegan Rand, Tatum and Grady Reher, Kaylee and Aubrey Leseberg, Taya (Kurt) Runge, Tiffeny (Dana) Keller, Tessa Hertel, Kyle and Megan Berens, Gerard and Orson Muller, Hazel Sherard, and a great-great granddaughter Valerie Runge.Marlyn is also survived by his brother Ivan and Ivan's children Elden (Wendy) Rand, Ryan (Kayla) Rand and Chris Hill, their families, several cousins, and Caryl's nieces and nephew.In addition to his wife and his parents, Marlyn was also preceded in death by his son Larry, brother Robert (who was killed in the Korean War) a sister-in-law Evelyn Rand, a grandson Terry Berens, two great grandchildren RJ and Julianna Rand, a niece Susan Hill, and Caryl's parents, siblings and nephew. www.hofmeisterjones.com
