Marquette W. Jones, was born to the late Ernest and Margaret Washington on March 5, 1962, in Northampton County, Virginia. Marquette was educated in the Northampton school system and graduated from Northampton Senior High School in 1980. She departed this life Sunday night, June 11, 2023, at Riverside Shore Memorial Hospital in Onley, Virginia.
In her early years, she gave her life to Christ and was baptized at the Bethel Baptist Church in Franktown, Virginia, and in her later years, she joined the Cornerstone Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Exmore, Virginia.
Because of her love and passion for people, she worked as a private duty nurse until her health failed.
Marquette loved people and was always helping someone whether she knew them or not. She would give her last so that someone else could be happy.
She was predeced in death by her mother; father; grandparents; three siblings, Ronald, Zenobia, and Patricia; and brother-in-law, Galvin.
She leaves to cherish her memories; her husband, Larry Jones, Nassawadox, VA; one stepson, Eric Johnson, Painter, VA; two sisters, Lowanda Washington, Belle Haven, VA, and Dana Harris, Nassawadox, VA; adoptive sister, Kesha Bailey, Jamesville, VA; one brother, Ernest Washington, Jr., Exmore, VA; brother/cousin, Gavin Sample, Belle Haven, VA; four aunts, Mary S. Sample, Jane Giddens Cabarrus, Annie Mae Fisher and Margaret (ML) Giddens; two great- aunts, Evera Ayres, Norfolk, VA, and Helen Singelton, Philadephia, PA; four grandkids and one great-grandchild; 19 nieces and nephews; two who were raised as her own, Marquia Glover and Marvielon Holt, both of Exmore, VA; four sisters-in-law, Anna Francis, Martha Sample, Dorothy Stratton, and Barbara Jones; one brother-in-law, John Ed Francis; and a host of cousins and friends, including two special cousins, Saundra Bailey and Cheryl Washington, and special friends, Velvet Hack, Sarah Mullen, Margaret Drummond, Bobby Rowley, and Mary Giddens whom she referred to as “mother.”
