E. Marsella Smith, 91E. Marsella Smith, 91, of Lafayette, died at 6:50 pm, Monday, November 25, 2013 at White Oaks Health Campus of Monticello. She was born on November 4, 1922 in Round Grove to the late Clarence and Dorothy (Wolf) Beasy. She graduated from Monon High School and went on to graduate from the St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and
Purdue University. She was also a Vanderbilt graduate where she received her Nurse Practioners degree. Her marriage of nearly 50 years was to Arthur R. Smith on February 6, 1942. He preceded her in death in 1990.She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church of Lafayette. As well as being a Nurse Practioner, Marsella was a Professor of Nursing at Purdue University and had worked at Jenks Rest in Lafayette for 16 years. She was a lifelong caregiver and truly enjoyed caring for others. She would spend her day off of work delivering soup to those she would look after. She was a workaholic and even mowed her own lawn until she was 89. She is survived by a daughter, Marsella Kay Shroeder (husband: Vincent) of Arcadia; 6 siblings, Betty Cowen (husband: Jerry) of Madisonville, TX, Louella Gibbons (husband: Orland) of Anderson, Norma Doyle of Monon, Sandra Pearson of Monticello, Mary Green of Monon, and Robert Beasy of Kenosha, WI. She is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death with her parents and husband is a daughter, Jane Wakeland. Friends may call from noon until the time of funeral service at 2 pm, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at Hartzler-Clapper Funeral Home, Brookston. Pastor Linda Dolby to officiate.
