Martha (Dukemineer) Daniel, 85, of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away on Tuesday, September 24th, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Bobby Daniel, who passed away in July 2022. She was also preceded by her parents, Tommie and Alice (Ortner) Dukemineer, and by her brother, Charles Dukemineer.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Jason Daniel and his wife, Julie, of Dacula, Georgia; a daughter, Deborah Daniel Thomas and her husband, David, of Venice, Florida; a sister, Bonnie Wilson and her husband, Steve, of Huntsville; three grandchildren, Katie Daniel of Dacula; Alex (Sarah Koopman) Thomas of Upton, Massachusetts, and Andrew (Angie Chen) Thomas of Brighton, Massachusetts; and three great-grandchildren, Theodore Daniel Thomas, Virginia Kaitlin Thomas and Welles Alexander Thomas, all of Upton; along with several dear sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Several people were very instrumental in Mrs. Daniel’s care over the last years, including her sister Bonnie, her friend Geneva Townsend, her niece Marilyn Ray, and Kristi George.

A 1956 graduate of Butler High School, Mrs. Daniel worked with the U.S Army Corps of Engineers in Huntsville in the 1960's. After moving with her family to Cincinnati, Ohio, in 1970, she worked with the U.S. Department of Human Resources; and then in Durham, North Carolina, in the newly-formed U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at Research Triangle Park from 1972 until her retirement in 1995. In 1975, Mrs. Daniel was awarded a Bronze Medal for Commendable Service by the EPA in recognition of her support in the planning and budgeting of air pollution control systems. She also served as budget director for several of the agency’s super-fund clean-up sites for many years.

After retirement she returned to her native Huntsville and worked as a real estate agent with several Huntsville agencies, including Doris Sisk Realty, Sandra Lowry Re-Max Real Estate, Ben Porter Real Estate and RISE Realty. A long time member of Mountain View Baptist Church in Blossomwood, Mrs. Daniel also attended Cove Church in Hampton Cove for several years and most recently attended West Huntsville Baptist Church.

Calling hours are currently 1:30pm on Sunday, September 29th at West Huntsville Baptist Church, 2211 Triana Blvd, Huntsville. Burial will follow at Huntsville Memory Gardens, 6810 University Drive NW. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Berryhill Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
