Martha Baker Hills Martha Baker Hills, age 88, of Okatie, SC died Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Life Care Center of Hilton Head after a long term illness. Mrs. Hills was born on June 16, 1928 in Hartford, CT, the daughter of the late Frederick Henry Baker and Gladys Emily Baldwin Baker. She grew up in Connecticut, married and raised a family there for many years before retiring to Murrells Inlet, SC. She was a graduate of Gilbert High School and went on to Secretarial School. While living in Okatie, she was a member of Church of the Palms where she was active with The Sisters and the Alter Guild as well as being active with Julie's Mission. She was a masterpoint bridge player and an avid golfer. Mrs. Hills was an avid reader and loved attending Book author Luncheons. She was a member of The Bluffton Christian Women's Club. Knitting and needlepoint were some of her favorite past times and she loved anything chocolate Mrs. Hills is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Jack Dudley Hills; son, Gary Schuyler Hills of MA (Ria); daughter, Leslie Hills Van of HHI, SC; sister, Gladys Stadnick; grandchildren, Jesse Hills, Melissa Hills, Benjamin Hills, Cory Hills, and Carlie Schuyler Van; and great-grandson, Coen Hills. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at Church of the Palms, 1425 Okatie Highway, Okatie, SC 29909. Burial will take place at a later date at Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in her memory to Church of the Palms.
