Martha J. Claspell, 93Indianapolis - Martha J. Claspell, 93, formerly of Yorktown, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, May 17, 2017, at Clear Vista Lake Health Campus in Indianapolis. She was born on May 1, 1924, in Muncie, the daughter of Charles S. and Beatrice J. (Dentner) Coon and graduated from Selma High School in 1942. On May 4, 1947, in Muncie, she married Charles Howard Claspell. Martha worked as the office manager for Dr. Arno and Robert Wolters Optometry for 35 years; was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church in Selma, where she served as a youth leader and member of the church board of trustees; she volunteered as Minnetrista for over 10 years and at Ball Memorial Hospital for over 25 years; was a member of the Farmland Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years where she was a past Matron and was a member of the RFD Home Economics Club.She enjoyed gardening and flowers, which she exhibited at the county fair; sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, walking and spending time with her church family.Surviving are one daughter, Sharon Locke (husband, Norman) of Liberty; one son, Jeff Claspell (spouse, Jaymes) of Indianapolis; one granddaughter, Kim Holloway of Long Beach, CA; one brother, Gary Coon (wife, Bonnie) of Albany; two sisters, Janet Goen (husband, Gerald) of Tarpon Springs, FL and Janice Park (husband, Robert) of Gulf Breeze, FL; lifelong friend, Martha Ann Harris of Muncie; and several nieces and nephews.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 58 years, Charles HowardClaspell on September 3, 2005; one grandson, Andrew Holloway; two brothers, Richard Charles Coon and Phillip Edward Coon; and one sister, Carolyn Jo Shively.Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 22, 2017, at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Pastor Dennis Rush officiating. Burial will follow at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, north of Muncie. Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 21, 2017, or one hour prior to services on Monday.
